The hemlocks in Lincoln, MA are showing a clear infestation of the Woolly Adelgid. This insect creates a white cottony deposit on the stems of hemlocks, mostly on the undersides, but sometimes visible from above. The insects feed off the sap in the small stems and stresses the hemlocks to the point where they can be killed by other diseases.
